NearbyCompany started as a private spreadsheet shared between homeowners tired of being passed between lead-gen sites. Today it's a publicly available, hand-curated index of the service businesses we'd hire ourselves.

Our vetting process

Every business goes through a four-step check: license verification, insurance proof, three reference calls with recent customers, and a sample-job inspection where applicable. We don't accept payment for placement, and we don't sell your contact info to anyone.

How we decide

We weight three things: craftsmanship (is the work consistently done right?), communication (do they show up on time and explain pricing clearly?), and trust (would we let them into our own home?). A business doesn't need to be the cheapest to be listed — it needs to be honest and reliable.
